Typography Portraits
Objective:
Create an interesting typography portrait.
Focus--> Unity, Rhythm Composition {positive and Negative Space}
Software: Adobe Photoshop
8.5 x 11 inch, 300 resolution Documents
PSD tools: Text Tool, Opacity, Layer Styles, Grouping Layers
ALL WORK CREATED BY STUDENTS in 9th-12th Grade

George Segal Inspire Typography Hand Casts
Featured Artist: George Segal --->Artist BIO
Materials:{Graphic portion of the project}
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Paper
Printer
Xacto Blade
Materials: {Sculpture portion}
Water, Bucket, Newpaper,
Plaster of Paris Strips
Saran Wrap {optional}
Brushes
Graphic Portion Objective:
Using adobe Photoshop Text tool, students are to create 3 typography designs, each design must meet the requirement below:
Sculpture Portion Objective:
Using plaster of paris students will take turns creating hand cast of their right or left arm.
1. Create a smooth, well constructed cast of an arm
2. Print a contact sheet of 1 of your selected 7 letter designs {vary sizes of graphic}
3. Cut out multiple 7 letter graphics
4. Brainstorm placement of finished graphics for application {applied with brush and modgepodge}
5. Apply modgepodge to a small area of the cast and then apply one cut out graphic.
6. Apply additional Modege podge over the freshly applied graphic
Repeat steps.

- 7 different fonts
- They may not overlap or touch

PARTNER UP... Create casts!
Step 4: Print Contact sheet of selected 7 letter design
Cut with xacto blade and place on cast
Step 5: Using Modge Podge Apply cut out designs to cast and let dry
Step 6: Hang and enjoy!
FINAL NOTE:
This lesson can be modified to fit any grade level.
